Caffeine makes me crazy, and to be honest, it's just not that good for you. But sometimes I really do need a morning pick-me-up, whether it's for pre-workout fuel or just post a very late night! Meet my saviour, Maca Powder. You can learn all about Maca's many benefits—energy booster, hormone regulator etc—right here. I'm super sensitive so, if you're like me, I wouldn't take Maca in the afternoon or evening otherwise you risk a restless night, but you'll be amazed at the concentration you can achieve, without any of the negative side effects that coffee can induce.

Ingredients:

1/2 tablespoon Maca Powder (I buy mine here)

1/2 frozen banana (non-frozen is fine too, I would just add more ice)

1 to 1 1/2 cups of almond milk (homemade is best, here's mine

1 date

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tbsp raw almond butter

1/4 tsp real vanilla

A handful of ice cubes

*Makes 1 shake

Method:

Add all ingredients except ice to a blender and blend on medium for 45 seconds. Turn up to high and add ice until smooth and frothy. I paired mine with an incredible zucchini-chocolate paleo muffin for breakfast—I'll post that recipe soon!
